The Republican Party is a major threat to America, and to the planet.”

America voted in the midterm elections on Tuesday. Again, they were described as the most important elections ever. This time, they really were important. On the same day, the United Nations Convention on Biological Diversity warned humans that we are destroying the planet very quickly. If we continue, we will also kill ourselves.

Christina Pasca Palmer is the latest person to warn that humans need to quickly change their behaviour. If we don’t stop attacking nature, we will destroy ourselves.

She talked about the “staggering” loss of birds, fish, insects and mammals. She said that species loss is a “silent killer”. It is different to climate change because we don’t see the effects everyday. 

Noam Chomsky

Noam Chomsky said the Republican Party was “the most dangerous organisation on Earth”, on Monday. He has said this before. He believes this because they do not believe in man-made climate change.

Ms. Palmer at the U.N. said things were very worrying. But, she asked people to be hopeful and keep trying.

“We should be aware of the dangers, but not paralyzed by inaction“, she said. We need higher levels of political and public support to help nature.
